A Portrait of the Savior Rom 6:3-7 Introduction: Baptism to the Jew. Was a sign of cleansing. See OT Laver, Cleansing and the ref to water. To the believer it is a sign of regeneration.
I. Baptism is a Picture, a Portrait of the Savior A. It Calls for remembrance for What Christ Did . B. It Calls for reverence of who Christ Is. Eternal God, Dying Lamb, Living Lord
Power over Sin , Death , Hell, Satan, Evil, Life, To understand Christ death we must understand his holiness. His Character and nature demand holiness from himself and those who stand in his presence. His goodness calls men to repentance. Rom 2:4
II. Baptism as a Promise it looks toward the sinner. A. It claims the promise 1. By placing your identity in Christ. I am dead Sin is defeated. Satan has no dominion. Death & Hell are overcome. 2. By acknowledging Christ in you. Christ is alive. We have a new love, a new life and a new eternity
III. Baptism as a Proclamation. Looks toward others and Proclaims: A. Your Faith That Jesus is Savior. It proclaims you were a Sinner in need of a Savior. It proclaims that you place your faith in Jesus Christ B. That Christ is Supreme. It Proclaims that Jesus is Greater than you Sin It Proclaims that Jesus has infinite worth. C. That Christ is Sufficient. Baptism is a testimony that Christ meant more than the old life and he has become your satisfaction.
