(66AD -end of time) -Rome -dark ages -church becomes rich, powerful

• Time of compromise -deception -pretense -church should be: 

1. Place of caring -for sinners -saints 

2. Place of convictions -our calling -our conversion -our commission 

3. Place of courage -to live -love -be loyal to Christ 

4. Place of consecration -Savior -scriptures -service

5. Place of Christian conduct -our words -ways -walk

I. The Church (vI8-19) -longest letter

A. The Place -wealth comes from dyeing industry

B. The Person (vI8b) .Son of God no mistake who is speaking .Eyes -fire what He sees -feet judgment

C. The People (vI9a) -systems .Lydia (Acts 16: 14-15) -might have founded church .Real woman named Jezebel -she ran church

 D. The Praise (vI9b) .Faithful- commended -emphasis is on works -worship became work - ceremonies and rituals

II The Complaint (v20-21) -another system

A. The Source (v20a) .Jezebel- the church at Rome teaches to follow her than teachings of Christ

B. The Seriousness (v20b) 1. Fornication- conforms to world -lower the standards for growth 2. Idolatry -pray to Mary instead of to only one mediator

C. Stubbornness (v21) -she can repent but will not

III The Counsel (v22-23)

A. Patient in Judgment (v22)

B. Punishment in Judgment (v23a) -children results of fornication
